Annotated Bibliography “Challenges African American Males face in Higher Education” –

This week, you will compile an Annotated Bibliography of 25 entries, 85 percent of which must be articles published within the past 5 years. Each annotated entry must concisely summarize key aspects of a study (refer to the Annotated Bibliography Checklist located under your weekly resources).

To write quality entries, you must understand each study—what the researchers did, why they did it, what they concluded, and the implications for future research. It is most important to include a thoughtful evaluation of the significance of the study’s findings as they relate not only to your topic, but also to other articles in your annotated bibliography. In addition, noting common and diverging themes will help you with subsequent assignments and ultimately with your dissertation.

Be sure to point out the (a) thesis and scope, (b) hypothesis, (c) population, (d) conclusion or findings (e) methodology, and (f) evaluation using the comments feature of Microsoft Word (see the illustration below).

Please note the same rules for citation applied to other documents (such as proper paraphrasing and the use of quotation marks where necessary) apply to Annotated Bibliographies as well. It is unacceptable to cut and paste from the abstract or the body of an article. Rather, read the article completely, and then appropriately paraphrase the necessary material. For those few situations where paraphrasing is not acceptable, then place material that has not been paraphrased into quotation marks. Please refer to the Northcentral University Integrity Policy and tutorial for more information.

Length: at least 25 research articles

Your annotated bibliography should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
